Tracey Hammett has been curating a night at the Hootananny in Brixton for the last thirteen years, it’s called Songwriters and Wordsmiths, it happens once every three months on a Tuesday evening and it showcases brilliant emerging songwriters and musicians.

This radio show is all about introducing you to some of the talented artists she works with. It celebrates them, by playing their recorded music and through hosting their live performances. There’s chat about songwriting and creativity too. It’s essential listening for anyone who is interested in lyrics, music, songwriting and outstanding live performances from brilliant emerging artists.

In this extended episode, the first half tells the story of how Songwriters and Wordsmiths began – and the significant songs that nurtured Tracey’s love of music and songwriting.

The second half of the programme is a live session and interview with the outstandingly talented Bilge Nur Yilmaz of Tendertwin. Bilge talks about her musical inspiration, growing up in Turkey, the importance of poetry, lyrics and crab apple trees, and plays some of her mesmerising songs, live in the studio (TIDAL INSOMNIAC AND THE RUNNERS). You will also learn the identity of her favourite fruit!
