The story of Lucius Septimius Severus, the Black Roman Emperor. One of the earliest historical periods encountered by anyone who is taught British history during their formative years, is that of Roman Britain, the 400 years, during which the most powerful military and political force of classical antiquity, the Roman Empire, conquered, occupied and culturally assimilated large parts of Ancient Britain.
