Series 4 Episode 5: Adrian Miller

In this podcast, Dr Florence Marfo’s guest is soul food scholar Adrian Miller.  Having served as a special assistant to President Bill Clinton, and as a senior policy analyst for Colorado Governor Bill Ritter Jr., Miller describes himself as a recovering attorney and former politico.

More importantly for many, Miller is a certified barbecue judge, who defines his work of culinary history as a love letter to his fellow African Americans. When they meet, in addition to discussing one of his publications: Soul Food: The Surprising Story of an American Cuisine One Plate at a Time, they explore the concept of eating nostalgia, the origin of some well-known food expressions and the surprising migration of food items from the Columbian exchange and beyond.
