In The Company Of
Episode 13: Jonelle Hector
A podcast that takes a peek inside Morley College, its inhabitants and wonders who are the people that make up this world. Host Lana Citron will be chatting to different members from the Morley community; a tutor, student or member of the staff – wondering what makes them tick, what inspires them, their aspirations and hopes and how they found themselves within the world of Morley.
In this episode Lana speaks to Jonelle Hector. Jonelle is the Programme Area Manager for ESOL and teacher of English Functional Skills and GCSE at the North Kensington Centre. She proudly hails from the Caribbean island of Aruba, but she strongly believes she has earned the right to call herself a Londoner.
After a brief stint in Florida, USA, Jonelle moved to Amsterdam, where she studied Education (with TESOL) at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. This international dual degree, further expanding her horizons, also took her to the University of…Wolverhampton, where she achieved a BA in English. From there, she took one minibreak to London to see Wicked at the Victoria Theatre, and the rest, as they say, is [her]story. She completed her MA in English Studies: Writing in the Modern Age at Queen Mary, University of London.
Since then, she has taught GCSE English Language and English Literature (GCSE & A-Level) in secondary schools across London; English for Academic Purposes at her alma mater, QMUL, and ESOL, FS and GCSE in further education colleges.
In her free time, you are likely to find her indulging her obsession with Literature on her sofa or mindfully practising yoga (she is working on her pincha mayurasana at time of writing) on her now-battered yoga mat.
