Grenfell Stories
Episode 4: Nathaniel McBride
Welcome to Grenfell Stories. In this series of podcasts, we will be commemorating the Grenfell Fire tragedy in which 72 people lost their lives and many many more were affected.
The community of North Kensington is as vivacious as it is diverse with a rich cultural, political and social history and it is the idea of community we will be focusing upon in these podcast interviews with community members past, present and future. We aim to highlight the work of the North Kensington community to look to the future with hope.
Using only RBKC council minutes, emails and blog posts, Dictating to the Estate is a play which tells the story of the refurbishment of Grenfell Tower and the residents attempt to be heard in the run up to the tragedy of June 14th 2017. The play also places these events in the context of national initiatives from central government including austerity, deregulation and social housing regeneration projects. Nathaniel McBride talks to us about his creative process, the response to the play and his hopes for the future. The project was in part rehearsed at the North Kensington Centre.
