It is not a secret that, unfortunately, the Church has a reputation of being homophobic. And that is because despite the many LGBTQIA+ people, priests and bishops who advocate and long for an affirming and inclusive church, the Church of England still holds particular view points and practices that prevent full inclusion and affirmation of LGBTQI+ people. So why and how does the Church of England maintain this institutional homophobia? What is being done to push against it? Surely, with the ever-growing presence of the far right the Church should be a place of safety for all, especially minority groups. It begs the question – just where is the power and how is it being used?
