🎙️ Finding Our Frequency: The Story of the Morley Radio Collective
It all started with a simple idea. what if students at Morley could come together to learn, create, and experiment with sound all while getting real, hands on experience in radio and podcasting? That idea turned into reality earlier this month, when the Morley Radio Collective officially launched! The first few sessions have been a mix of curiosity, creativity, and joy, while students receive an induction into the Morley Radio studios, getting to know our gear and our software, Myriad. It’s been clear that this Collective isn’t just about learning the technical side of radio. It’s about discovering new ways to share stories and connect with people. Whether we’re brainstorming ideas, recording our first adverts, or experimenting with playlists, there’s a sense of collaboration that makes every session feel alive.
Each week, the Collective is growing. Not just in numbers, but in confidence. We’re already talking about new projects, collaborations, and maybe even our own student led live shows. The Morley Radio Collective is still in it’s early days, but there’s a lot of exciting sound to come.
🔥 Hot Off the Mic: New Shows
The Groove Archive
Dive into the groove with the first episode of The Groove Archive on Morley Radio, where host Katherine takes you on a musical journey every other week into a mysterious box not sorted by artist or era, but purely by vibe. Each episode opens a treasure trove of tracks that span genres and decades, from funk and jazz to soul and beyond. In the debut show, listeners are treated to gems like Roy Ayers’ “Everybody Loves the Sunshine” and James Brown’s “Get on the Good Foot”. With thoughtful commentary and infectious energy, Katherine explores what makes these songs move us and why the groove never gets old. Perfect for music lovers who crave a deep, soulful listen.
In A Flap
Step into the rhythm with In A Flap: Rhythm Tap Student Stories, a brand-new podcast hosted by Lexi Bradburn, Morley College Waterloo’s dynamic tap teacher. With eighteen Rhythm Tap courses running each term, Lexi meets an incredible mix of students and now she’s inviting listeners to meet them too! In each episode, she chats with one of her talented tappers to uncover who they are beyond the studio, their passions, their lives, and what keeps their toes tapping. In the pilot episode, Lexi sits down with Jane and Rob Stocks, a married couple who’ve been tapping together for over eight years. From their first class to lockdown dance sessions, they share how rhythm tap became their shared joy, with a few hilarious surprises along the way (including a memorable audition mishap and a questionable middle name!). It’s a warm, funny, and heartfelt listen that celebrates creativity, community, and the joy of dance.
🍸 Show Host Mixer: Cheers to Creativity!
The Morley Radio Mixer brought together our amazing hosts, producers, and creatives for an evening of connection, laughter, and celebration. Over drinks and great conversation, familiar voices met face to face, sharing stories, ideas, and future show plans. It was a perfect reminder that behind every brilliant broadcast is a vibrant community and we can’t wait to do it again!
