Live, Local, Loud: South London’s Creative Spring

At Morley Radio, things never stand still for too long. As the Morley Radio Collective continues to always grow in confidence and creativity, we are also looking outward towards the wider community, and the exciting events happening right on our doorstep in South London and beyond! There’s plenty happening this spring and early summer to spark ideas, conversations and create connections with your community.

One of the biggest highlights on the horizon is Brockwell Live, returning to Brockwell Park from the 23rd of May for five days. This is a major moment in the South London cultural calendar, bringing together a series of festivals including Field Day, Cross The Tracks, City Splash and Mighty Hoopla. Across the programme, Brockwell Park transforms into a hub for live music, independent food traders and loads of creative energy! It’s a time to experience and celebrate culture and community in one shared space. Right before that, the community spirit continues at Mayfest which takes place in the Windmill Gardens on May 4th. Running from 1pm to 5pm this free local celebration of May Day brings people together with live
music, food stalls, crafts and family workshops alongside traditional Morris dancing and maypole celebrations. Come down and celebrate with your friends and family!

Calling all music lovers don’t miss Morley’s very own piano recitals. The Lunchtime Concert Series continues with piano recitals taking place on the 12th and 19th of May, join us in the beautiful Holst Room at Morley College London. The intimate performances offer a chance to step away from the noise of the city and fully immerse yourself in live classical music. See it for yourself up close and personal this intimate experience is not one to miss. Perfect inspiration for anyone exploring sound or performance or just want to sit back, relax and listen to some melodic piano.

Step behind the scenes and into an exhibition showcasing the art that lives behind the desks, classrooms, and studios. STAFF ROOM is a new exhibition revealing the work of those who shape what happens across the studios and classrooms every day. This show brings together academics and technicians working in Fashion, Photography, Fine Art, Design, Millinery, Printmaking, Film, and Moving image. The private view takes place on the 28th of April from 5:30-8pm. The exhibition then runs from the 29th of April to the 13th of May open from 10am-4pm. Come stop by at the Morley Chelsea campus. See you there!

Another one of Morley’s own, don’t miss the open day at our Waterloo, Chelsea, and North Kensington site. This is taking place on Saturday May 9th at 11:00am-2:00pm. Open days like this offer a behind-the-scenes look at our creative courses, facilities and student work. For anyone curious about the wider creative range Morley offers this a perfect opportunity to meet tutors and explore what might be the right course for you!

Hope you enjoy this culture packed local events. These are not just opportunities but also fuel for creativity. It’s always important to be involved in your community and a great chance to meet new people and experience new things. Put yourself out there! Anyways there’s a lot coming up— and even more to listen for. See you on the Air!
