Getting A Grip!

Songwriters and Wordsmiths

Show 9: Getting A Grip!

Host: Tracey Hammett

Tracey Hammett has been curating a night at the Hootananny in Brixton for the last thirteen years, it’s called Songwriters and Wordsmiths, it happens once every three months on a Tuesday evening and it showcases brilliant emerging songwriters and musicians.

This radio show is all about introducing you to some of the talented artists she works with. It celebrates them, by playing their recorded music and through hosting their live performances. There’s chat about songwriting and creativity too. It’s essential listening for anyone who is interested in lyrics, music, songwriting and outstanding live performances from brilliant emerging artists.

We’re going to get a grip. A hair grip. January’s episode of Songwriters and Wordsmiths includes some 80s and 90s nostalgia from XTC, The Sundays and The Blue Nile; some great rising talent with Ruby Dew, Immy Churchill and Eli Dayo, an epic love story penned by Richard Thompson; and Kae Tempest’s celebration of people in the midst of life’s madness. Oh and talking of life’s madness – Ivor Cutler muses on hairgrips in the bed and the cunningness of socks.
