Episode 4: Walter Beasley

Welcome to Crafted: Stories of Black Artistry, the podcast where we interview black creatives [that’s writers, choreographers, visuals artists and more] about their lives and work and explore the pathways to becoming successful in their craft. Stay tuned to learn more about Black art.

The legendary Walter Beasley is Dr Florence Marfo’s guest in this episode of Crafted: Stories of Black Artistry. He braves a spate of ill health to talk to Florence about his values and his lifelong love affair with making music. Once dubbed the heir to Grover Washington Jr’s throne, Beasley protests that at the time he wasn’t worthy of such a title. Yet, he’s now amongst the highest selling saxophonists in the world with an endless list of collaborators (Stephanie Mills, Vanessa Williams and Laylah Hathaway to name but a few). Beasley’s latest album Tribute to Soul was released in 2024. For more information, visit WalterBeasley.com
