Series 4 Episode 1: Dr Janine Bradbury
In this podcast Dr Florence Marfo meets Dr Janine Bradbury, Senior Lecturer of Contemporary Writing and Culture at the University of York. They discuss Janine’s love of reading, learning and teaching, and a career that has seen Janine appear on BBC Radio 4 and write articles for the Guardian. They also explore the work of a new literary talent: Caleb Azumah Nelson and his debut novel Open Water, which Janine teaches alongside Steve McQueen’s Lovers Rock. Janine is currently finishing several works for publication, including a poetry pamphlet for Ignition Press, and an article on teaching and feeling and what it means to teach Black literature nowadays. She touches upon the impact of Alice Walker’s In Search of Our Mothers’ Gardens on her life and career.
